Will I get practical tattoo training?

Practical learning involves applying a technique, having the result reviewed and working on the feedback. Before booking, confirm how those steps are organised for the particular course and format you choose.

Distinguish the learning formats

Online study can include practical assignments that you complete and submit for review. In-person training adds scheduled time with a trainer. Check the course requirements for each format: the number of attendance days alone does not describe the whole learning process.

The South Africa tattoo training guide and online study guide explain the decisions to consider. Use the linked current course page to confirm the actual option available to you.

Ask what you will practise

Ask which drawings and synthetic-skin exercises you should prepare, what equipment is required and how your work will be assessed. Find out whether there is preparation to complete before an in-person session so that you can make good use of the trainer’s time.

Do not assume a model session or work on a person is included simply because a course is described as practical. Confirm any model arrangements directly with the training team and follow the trainer’s assessment of readiness.

Understand how feedback works

  • Who will review your practical work?
  • Should you submit photographs, bring exercises to a session or both?
  • How should you ask for help with a technique?
  • What should you do if an exercise needs to be repeated?
  • How will the trainer decide what you should work on next?

Keep earlier attempts, even when they are imperfect. Comparing an exercise before and after feedback is more useful than showing only your strongest work. Our practice and feedback guide includes a straightforward log you can use.

Confirm the arrangements before travelling

For an in-person option, confirm the next available dates, venue, daily schedule and what to bring before booking travel or accommodation. Check whether your chosen enrolment includes equipment; our beginner equipment guide helps you organise that comparison.

Ask about your course

Contact Skinart with the course name, your location and your experience so the team can explain the practical arrangements that apply to your selection.
