Before adding permanent makeup to a salon or opening a dedicated workspace, explain the proposed services to the environmental-health office responsible for the address. Ask which approvals apply to the premises and operator.

Describe the services you intend to offer

List the PMU treatments you plan to provide and explain whether the room already hosts other services. Ask the authority how it classifies those activities and which current by-law or application applies. Do not assume that an existing beauty-salon approval automatically covers every additional procedure.

Confirm the premises arrangements

• Is the proposed use permitted at the address?
• Does adding PMU require a new or amended premises approval?
• What facilities, layout details and waste arrangements must be assessed?
• Who should apply when a practitioner rents a room within another business?
• Is an inspection required before offering the service?

Request the answers in writing before committing to alterations or a rental agreement. Keep the applicable forms, conditions and contact details together so you can follow up on outstanding items.

Separate training evidence from permission to operate

Ask the authority which training or competency records it requires. A course certificate documents education; it does not itself confirm premises approval or establish permission to perform every service. Ask your provider exactly which course and assessment the certificate represents.

For a workspace offering several services, describe all of them in the enquiry. Keep business-registration questions, premises approvals and course documents as separate items rather than treating any one document as covering the whole process.
