Start with the skill you want to learn

Scalp micropigmentation, usually shortened to SMP, is a focused discipline. When you compare training, look beyond a short demonstration or a single close-up photograph. Ask how the course connects design decisions, equipment knowledge and assessed practice, and how you will record your progress. A useful starting goal is a clear study routine and a portfolio of exercises that your tutor can review.

This South African guide helps you prepare for online study. Current enrolment, payment choices and equipment options are on the Online Scalp Micropigmentation Course page; your learning takes place in the Skinart Academy.

What the online SMP course covers

The published curriculum includes an introduction and course files, legal and public-health topics, equipment, needles and pigments, micropigmentation techniques, hairline design, blending and shading, assignments and a completion review. Open the course curriculum before choosing an option so you can see how these subjects fit together.

  • Design study: review how hairline planning and a consistent overall appearance relate to the exercises you submit.
  • Equipment knowledge: understand the materials required for the course rather than buying a machine or kit from a photograph alone.
  • Practice and feedback: keep dated examples, ask specific questions and revisit the work your tutor identifies for improvement.

A practical study plan for distance learning

Before you begin, set aside time for both watching and practising. Video running time is only part of the learning workload. Keep the lesson notes, exercise photographs and tutor feedback together so you can return to a task without having to reconstruct what you did last week.

For each exercise, photograph the complete practice surface and a clear detail view in consistent lighting. Write down the exercise brief, the materials used and the point you want feedback on. Repeating an exercise after feedback gives you a more useful comparison than keeping only your best attempt. Use the SMP study-routine guide to organise the learning record.

Confirm equipment before placing your order

Equipment is not automatically included with every course option. Check the current South African offer and ask the training team which practice materials you will need, whether your existing equipment is suitable and when it is needed in your study sequence. Keep course fees and optional equipment costs separate when planning your budget.

Recorded online learning and an in-person practical booking are different arrangements. If you want additional practical support, ask the training team about the current arrangements before assuming a venue, date or practical session is included.

Choose the full course or plan staged study

The current course page offers Full Course and Pay As You Go choices. Pay As You Go Part 1 is the first part, rather than the full course or its full-course certificate. Read the current access, assessment and payment terms alongside your selected option. Check prices on the course page when you are ready to order; a saved screenshot may describe an older offer.

Combine SMP with other main course subjects

If you also want to study tattooing, piercing, permanent makeup, microblading or tattoo removal, compare the South African package builder. SMP is one of its six main disciplines and is included in the Full House Online Course Package. Compare the selected courses, equipment options and total before choosing a bundle; start with the subjects you can give enough practice time to.

Plan the move from learning to professional work

Keep your course and assessment records together. Before offering services, confirm the relevant local-authority, premises and insurance requirements for the work you intend to do. A course certificate records educational achievement; it does not settle those separate checks. The South African SMP certification and insurance guide gives you questions to take to the appropriate provider.

Choose the course for your location

Use the course page to confirm the current price, equipment arrangements, practical requirements and enrolment terms. A course certificate records educational achievement; check the requirements for the work and location you intend to practise in separately.
